The Stockley Wetlands project site covers an area of 12 hectares consisting of a narrow, sinuous block of valley bottom land. The proposed wetland construction will form a valley marsh complex through the modification of existing and historic valley landforms to create a series of ephemeral ponds.

Longford Estate sits on one of the world’s most famous chalk streams – the Hampshire Avon. For many years, the estate has run a trout farm as part of its food production enterprise. Phosphorus savings will be secured through the partial decommissioning of Barford Park Trout Farm in Downton.

The site is on that of an arable field on very heavy clay soil. The plan is to create a mix of woodland, scrub, lowland meadow, and pond over the site, linking two existing woodland habitats. This will create temporary and permanent phosphate credits as well as BNG units.
