Exploring Soil Carbon Trading: Insights from the North Lincs Carbon Baselining Project

Last week EFG hosted a morning dedicated to carbon at The GWCT Allerton Project, concluding our year-long initiative to baseline carbon emissions and sequestration with members in North Lincolnshire. This project aimed to gain an understanding of the potential total sequestration across member farms and explore opportunities within emerging carbon markets.

We were joined by Luke Baldwin, CEO of Nature Broking, who provided an in-depth overview of the current carbon markets and their relevance to UK agriculture. The team at Beyond Zero also demonstrated their innovative dashboard and shared insights into the UK Carbon Code of Conduct, helping members navigate the complexities of carbon trading.

The findings from the North Lincs project were significant: participating members had the potential to collectively sequester over 100,000 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent through environmental projects they are keen to implement on their farms. This represents a major opportunity for farmers to contribute to climate goals while unlocking new revenue streams.

EFG is now actively encouraging members to engage with soil carbon markets. To support this, we are offering exclusive member discounts through Regenerate Outcomes and Ecometric Ltd, with Beyond Zero joining soon. These partnerships aim to make carbon trading more accessible and transparent for our members.
